Lot 297 C.M. Coolidge Framed Print c1903 - General Americana
Classic "A BOLD BLUFF" print, the "Dogs Playing Poker" painting that has become an icon. The artist was Cassius Marcellus Coolidge (1844-1934). The series of prints was originally commissioned in 1903 by Brown & Bigelow to sell cigars. The original painting fetched $590,400.00 at auction in February of 2005. The back story is that the St. Bernard has bluffed the others into folding with his less-than-magnificent hand. Original print in original frame, no glass. Measures 16.5" x 12". - Jacobitz Collection
